At the end of Logan, there is a scene where a Christian crucifix is turned into the famous X symbol - and I thought to myself, but of course, what an amazing example of the Marvel technique of being so obvious, and yet so invisible. And what perfect timing for the release of Logan - during the month of Adar on the Jewish calendar! The significance is huge, and so masked.
Jews had to hide many things over our long history of persecution. Even who we are - as Jews. And sadly, our Jewish identity was even hidden by our past generations who raised their children never knowing about their Jewish roots for fear of their children's lives. I have someone dear to me, who I believe has such a hidden identity, who I wonder if he even knows what he is missing when he sees Logan. As much as he loves the character Logan, the meaning of Logan may have far more significance in his life than he knows.
The month of Adar is very special. I have been saying for many months, watch Israel THIS month. That is why I said in a post yesterday that metaphorically speaking I believed things are happening that are "over people's head." Things are always not in plain view. Or as some put it, G-d works in mysterious ways.
Purim is playing out in very mystical ways, and I will play it out myself as I sing Willkommen from Cabaret next Saturday night. Cabaret is risky. Being Jewish is risky. And so Jews hid themselves. They put on masks. They acted! Because, LIFE IS A CABARET MY FRIENDS.
